As-Salamu Alaikum,In response to those in high school who are interested in studying at the Islamic University:
THE BIGGEST REASON APPLICATIONS ARE REJECTED IS BECAUSE OF MISSING REQUIRED DOCUMENTS OR LACK OF ARABIC TRANSLATION.
The general rule at the university is that those who are applying from western countries i.e. America, Canada, Europe and so forth are not allowed to come without a high school diploma.
The following conditions of admission are taken from the application:
1) An applicant must be a holder of the general certificate of secondary education (high school) or its equivalent from any of the kingdoms schools or from abroad. (A G.E.D is also accepted)
2) Not more than 5 years should have passed since the applicant obtained the general certificate of secondary education or its equivalent
3) An applicant should not have been dismissed from another university on disciplinary or educational grounds.
4) An applicant should not exceed the age of 25
6) An applicant seeking admission to the college of Qur’an should have memorized the entire Qur’an.
Along with these conditions, an applicant must present the following documents with his application:
a) A copy of high school diploma
b) High school transcript for the senior year.
c) A certificate bearing witness to the good character and religious practice of the applicant from a reliable source. ( Known as a tazkiyyah, you may acquire one from the Imam of your local mosque or from most reputable callers to Islam (du’aat) insha Allah)
d) A birth certificate
e) Six passport size photos (4×6)
f) Please have a copy of your umrah or hajj visa. (This is for students who come for Umrah or Hajj)
between October 23 till January 20 (however they usually allow people to apply as soon as school starts if you come in person) and the address for those who are not able to make umrah or come to the University for an interview is:
Deanship of Admission and Registration
The Islamic University, P.O Box 170
Madinah Munawwarah, Saudi Arabia
If you wish to contact them by phone # 011-966-4-847-1884
As for those applying as American students we request that you send your paper work to:
Note: All information is to be translated into Arabic and notarized, the university will not accept applications without Arabic translations.
Note: We can no longer help in turning in applications. If anyone comes in person we will gladly help them.
May Allah grant you all success, ameen.

Assalam alikum
It should also be noted that they require a photo copy of your visa. When I went with a brother to apply they made him go back to the hotel so he could get his passport.

I am interested in applying to the university and I have already started my studies here, learning Arabic and memorizing Quran, and insha Allah this summer 2008 I am going to Egypt to study Arabic. Trying to apply seems pretty confusing and I am glad you guys are here to help. I see the list of things I need and I wanted to start filling out the application but the website does not work in English. However I managed to move my way around and found the link to the application in Arabic. Do I have to fill that out in Arabic? or is do I do it in English? Also that one is online, I thought I would have to fill some things out and gather all my stuff together and mail everything to them? Could you guys give us the link to the English site and/or the application. Also when does it need to be turned in by? And do I have to do an in person interview, is it necesary? B/C plane tickets are expensive!
Jazzaka Allah khayr
Please help as this seems a bit confusing, and I would hardly want this to stand in the way of me studying.

I am very interested in attending school in Madinah, but I had a few questions. First, the 6 passport pictures (4×6), is that standard American size passport pictures? Second, what documents do I have to have translated to Arabic? Third, Do I have to have my application along with my documents approved by the Saudi Embassy in America?

I’m a personality who is really passionate about broadening my knowlegde in the islamic studies. i’m presently in a college studying islamic studies and political science and right now after completing my program, i intend furthering my knowledge in your university.
i read the addmission details and the one that really gave me much concern is the requirement of the ability to have memorised the whole Qur’an. i’m actually versed with prominent chapters but could’nt you be a little bit lenient just for me to ba able to advance my studies… i’ll be really happy if i can be considered in benefitting from the islamic programs in the school.
Thankss in anticipation of your favourable response.

Assalamualaikum
I’am asking on behalf of my 21 years old son, Muhammad Hidayat Hamzah. Now, he is applying for a two year arabic language class at Umm Al-Qura, Makkah. he has high school certificate in Mathematics, Chemistry and Biology but not Islamic study. He is very keen to studying at Islamic University in Medina as soon as he finished the two year arabic language class in Makkah. my question is:
1. can he study degree in science (i.e mathematics) at Islamic University of Medina after completing his 2-year arabic language in Makkah ?
2. if so, when can he apply to study degree in Science (i.e mathematic)at Medina University ? e.g now? or wait until he finished his arabic language?
May Allah swt bless my son to be able to study science and islam in Medina university.

How do women apply?

Wa alaikum salaam Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuh,
Women don’t apply. This school is for men. If your interested in studying Islam, other excellent schools are Umm al-Qora in Mecca and Imam Muhammad U. in Riyadh. Try bakkah.net for more info

Oh, I also forgot. For married women whos husband is studying or living in Madinah, I think the school arranges some activities for the wives or at least there are many scholars there they teach women. Its Madinah, the city of the prohphet(SAW) and light.

Assalamualikum,
I am soon to be 23 yrs old and I have a bachelors degree but it has been 5 yrs since i graduated from high school – would that disqualify me?
Also, which university would you recommend for me to attend if I want to take my wife there. She does not want to study but just to live together. Where is it best/easiest to take your wife, and how long does it take? JazakAllah Khair

Wa ‘alaykumus-salaam N Khan, it would be easier for you to go there to saudi and apply during their school year whenever that is. Also, you’re 23 which is still and “okay” age to apply, and plus you have a bachelor degree which should replace your high school degree I believe, wallahu ‘alam. The list comes out during end of May, also the best to apply before Hajj season to be safe.
————
To some of the above questions…
Madinah is not a science school only Islamic, if you’re looking for science, then look into Imaam University in Riyadh, or Umm ul Qura in Mekkah.
Also you can still apply to the university without memorizing the whole Qur’an, but do not make that your excuse to abandon the Qur’an and say I wont study. The advice people give is generally like, plan as if you wont get accepted, because it is up to the will of Allaah to accept you or not.
Things that do increase the chances of getting accepted are:
MAKING SURE YOU HAVE ALL THE DOCUMENTS 100% and what is REQUIRED
GETTING AN INTERVIEW according to one student increases 80% chance of getting accepted
MAKING DUA (This should be number one)
MEMORIZING THE QUR’AN AND SMALL BOOKS OR HADEETHS
KNOWING THE ARABIC LANGUAGE (may not matter, but it could be a plus, but again don’t say to your self, if I don’t get accepted I am not learning Arabic)
Having a strong foundation of Islam (Proper aqeedah, knowledge of some aspects of Islam like 5 pillars)
IF YOU ARE A CONVERT, THAT IS A MAJOR PLUS!
Apply before 25 (Umm ul-Qura I heard are lenient towards students, but Wallahu ‘alam, I dont know about Madinah)
…
Also for high schoolers, really try your best to plan smart. If you are 18, you can apply in 4-5 years still, and according to one local shaykh here in Canada, Madinah prefers students with Bachelors (wallahu ‘alam). So look at your options insha’allah, and do what you can to learn Arabic and memorizing Qur’an, and learn proper Islam.
Anyways Was-Salamu ‘Alaykum

Dear Brother,
I have graduated from the 3rd highest ranking MBA program in Pakistan with a 3.87 GPA. After 3 years of work experience I have been extremely put of by the corporate culture and that led to understand the importance of my religion and embrace it whole heartedly. My ambition is to learn as much as possible and use my knowledge to spread its message and feel very strongly about it. My only concern is that I 28 years old, though the age limit at the university is 24. What chances to I have for admission? Please explain if I have any options. I am sure there should be.

السلام عليكم
I In Shaa Allah have all the documents ready, and I am coming to Saudi on the 22nd of November In Shaa Allaah for Hajj from the U.S. I was wondering if I could get some assistance in filling out the general application and translating it as I find some of these questions confusing. Also I have two letters of recommendation in Arabic, is that sufficient or do I need a signed paper from my Imaam?
Also, I was wondering if someone could tell me when the University will be closed as I assume that around Hajj the semester is over. And is it a good idea to apply to both Umm Al-Qura and Al-Madeenah so as to try to get into either one and increase my chances?
